Litter. It's one of the most common problems faced by the companies that own and run commercial retail parks and industrial estates.
The frustrating thing about litter is that it only takes a small amount to ruin the aesthetics of a business park or shopping centre.
And litter can take many forms:
- commercial litter, like shopping bags and food wrappings
- construction litter, like wooden crates or building supplies
- cigarette ends
- dog excrement
Did you know an astonishing two million bits of trash are dropped on the UK's street and every day. 2,000,000 bits of rubbish. A day.
The cost to clear away this rubbish is over £850million a year.
As a business owner, or an owner of a commercial/industrial estate, you can be sure this cost is being funded through the rates you pay to local authorities.
But is not only the cost you need to concern yourself with. If attracting new customers and welcoming business visitors is high on your agenda, litter is not your friend.
Tactics To Deal With A Litter Problem
So here are some tactics you can use to minimise the impact of litter on your commercial retail or industrial business park:
- Have plenty of bins. Normally, if a bin is not in eye-shot, the floor is the next best thing
- Empty your bins regularly. A full bin is a useless bin
- Use signs to encourage shoppers/visitors to use your nice empty bins
- Conduct regular trash-walks
- Minimise the amount of potential litter you hand out to visitors/customers
- Keep your landscape clear of litter. People are much less likely to spoil an immaculate landscape by being the first person to drop a crisp packet
