Spring is here. And that means it's time to start planning for your summer lawn.
There are lots of things you (or a professional grounds maintenance company like us) can be doing in order to get your lawn looking lush and green.
Raking
Raking your lawn gets rid of debris, including leaves, thatch and dead grass.
Compaction
Compaction is what happens to a lawn when it is over used by people and vehicles. For example, parking a vehicle on a lawn caused the soil to compact. This creates a drainage problem in the soil and isn't good for grass.
A sign of compaction is the presence of mossy clumps in the lawn.
A compaction problem can be overcome through aeration. Using an aerator on the lawn can restore proper drainage to the soil.
Overseeding
This doesn't mean putting down too much grass seed. It refers to the technique of seeding areas of the lawn that are bare. Where there are bare patches in the lawn, you can apply grass seed and slow-release nitrogen fertilizer.
Fertilizing
Fertilzing a lawn gives it the nutrients and minerals it needs for growth. There are many types of compost and fertilizer available, please contact us if you have any questions about what one to use.
Weed Control
There are two stages of weed control. Preventative and reactive. Again, weed control is a complicated subject especially when dealing with invasive weeds like Japanese Knotweed. Often weed control is best looked after by a professional grounds maintenance company.
End Result
With all the above done correctly, you'll be left with a lawn read for summer. And that presents a whole new challenge: Lawn mowing!
